    Saturday 23rd March 2024 Giuseppe Verdi: La Forza del Destino Overture Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” Overture is a mesmerizing and powerful musical prelude to his eponymous opera. This overture encapsulates the tragic tale of love, fate, and revenge. Sergei Rachmaninov: Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini Rachmaninov’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” is a virtuosic and captivating work for piano and orchestra. Based on a theme from Niccolò Paganini’s Violin Caprice No. 24, Rachmaninov takes the simple melody and weaves an intricate tapestry of 24 variations, each displaying his exceptional skill at the piano and melodic inventiveness. Pietro Mascagni: Cavalleria Rusticana (Intermezzo) Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” Intermezzo paints a vivid picture of the Sicilian countryside, transporting listeners and has become a beloved concert piece in its own right, frequently performed as a standalone work by orchestras worldwide. Edward Elgar: Enigma Variations Elgar’s “Enigma Variations” is a mesmerizing and innovative orchestral work, composed in 1899. Consisting of a theme and fourteen variations, the piece is a heartfelt tribute to Elgar’s friends and acquaintances, each variation representing a musical portrait of a specific individual.

With heavily discounted tickets for children, this special event features a narration of Sleeping Beauty through Tchaikovsky’s magical Sleeping Beauty Suite, Corelli’s joyful Christmas Cantata, and a sparkling mix of seasonal favourites and traditional carols. Back by popular demand, our children’s tour of the orchestra is especially enjoyed by our youngest listeners.
